On The Day Of Your Repair
Getting To Your Appointment
I will call or text you a day or two before your appointment as a reminder.
I can be at the workshop as early as 7am. On weekdays, I politely request that you don't arrive any later than 11am and on Saturday morning no later than 9am (I only work until midday).
If you cannot make your appointment, or are running late please let me know as soon as possible. Cancellations happen, and as long as I have prior notice I am usually able to offer the slot to another customer.
The flag on the map is exactly where the workshop is located. I work alongside Marc's Independent BMW. Most satnavs get close but struggle with the last 100 yards. Study the map and instructions below. Thanks.
Repairs to your BMW or MINI automatic gear selector are carried out at our workshop in Aldridge, UK.

I work alongside Marc's Independent BMW.
Marc offers BMW/MINI servicing, brakes, tyres, MOT and mechanical repairs. He has been a BMW technician for over 30 years and is highly regarded in the community.
If your BMW/MINI is due any other maintenance, get it done in one visit.
Ask if you require further information.
Before Your Appointment
Please ensure all floor areas of the vehicle are clear.
Remove any child seats from the vehicle - all seats needs to be clear.
Ensure the centre console, armrest and ashtrays are clear -- the will be completely removed from the vehicle.
Remove any personal / delicate / valuable items from the vehicle. I cannot be responsible for loss/damage of possessions from the vehicle.
Check the height adjustment on your centre armrest works. If the ratchet mechanism is broken, this is an ideal oppotunity to have it replaced without incurring additional labour costs. I'll be happy to quote. Delivery times from BMW/MINI vary so please give plenty of warning.
If your vehicle has an electronic parking brake, closely inspect the switch with a torch. They often crack which leads to the switch snapping and you won't be able to operate the parking brake - potentially not being able to release it when it is on.
The switch is circa £120 but there is no additional labour as I disconnect it during the repair process. Let me know in advance if you require one as I don't keep them in stock. The switch is a genuine BMW part and comes with a 2-year warranty.
I also offer a repair service for the switch at £50. This involves replacing the top section of the switch. I guarantee this for 12-months against failure.
During Your Appointment
There are no waiting facilities so bring an umbrella!
Walk out out of our gates and turn left onto Northgate Way. At the roundabout turn right and continue down Northgate.
A number of customers have asked that I recommend Aldridge Transport Museum as something to do whilst your vehicle is being repaired. Please check their opening days on their website as they do not open to visitors every day. They are just on your right - will only take 2/3 minutes to get there.
We have had good reviews of a local cafe called Crumbs Cafe - they are on the next roundabout you come to on your righthand side. This is approximately 5 minutes walk from the workshop and an all day breakfast can be had for less than £10. They also have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/crumbs.sandwich.bar.aldridge
If you'd prefer a longer walk, keep walking another 5-10 mins until you see the post office on your left and at the next roundabout, take the 1 o'clock exit onto Anchor Road, keeping The Crown Inn on your left. You'll see Costa Coffee on your left and a bit further down Wetherspoons on the right.
I will call or text you once it is time to return to the workshop. We run a popular and extremely busy workshop and on a busy day, I may need to attend to the occasional phone call or parts supplier. As a guide, X1 and 2 series are normally repaired in 2 hours and MINI (with manual handbrake) take a little longer and sometimes the full 3-hours.
No point in returning to the workshop until I call you. Whilst you are walking back, I'll be doing your paperwork so you won't save any time. And of course, whilst things usually go smoothly, the job can take longer - as an example, the console has been removed before and hasn't been reassembled correctly! I've even had sticky cola residues to clean out of the console :)
Payment can be made by card, cash or bank transfer and must be made on collection of your vehicle. You will receive a full invoice, the old spring and diagnostic reports taken on entry and exit of the workshop.
After Your Appointment
My only wish is you're delighted with the service and will tell others. As a small business, we are "only as good as our last job". I always treat customer vehicles as if they were my own.
Your repair is covered by a 12-month warranty on the spring, including labour. I've not had a single failure yet but am consicious that with the best will in the world this may happen one day. Please call me immediately if you do experience any issues or have questions. I'm here to help.
